Wondering what to do with the kids during the summer? Send them to Camp Wonder, a summer day camp offered by the City of Carrollton. Camps will be held Monday through Friday for children 5-12 years old.

The day camp will be held weekly beginning Monday, July 6 and will run through Friday, August 14. Campers can be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. and picked up by 6 p.m. at Crosby Recreation Center (1610 E. Crosby Road).

Camp Wonder consists of six one-week sessions with a different theme each week. Participants may choose some or all six of the sessions. Themes include All Ball, Buggin’ Out, Christmas in July, Hawaiian Luau, Under the Sea, and Mystery Week. Camp fees for each session are $130 per week for residents and $143 per week for non-residents and are due seven days prior to the week start day.

Campers will be split into three units based on age. Campers who are siblings or carpool together will be put in the same unit, regardless of age. Counselors will be split between units, and counselors and coordinators will be assigned to the same campers for the duration of the summer. Each unit will be placed in separate rooms where they will complete daily activities including STEAM projects, arts and crafts, sports and athletics, games, group activities, and more.

The City’s trained counselors work to ensure that each camper has a fun and rewarding experience. Campers will also go on weekly virtual field trips and have special entertainment opportunities brought on-site. A detailed schedule will be emailed to parents on a weekly basis.

“The Parks & Recreation Department continually seeks new and better ways to engage the community with rewarding experiences especially during these changing times,” Carrollton Parks & Recreation Director Scott Whitaker said. “Camp Wonder offers recreation, education, and an opportunity to have fun, meet more kids, and develop new friendships along the way.”

This summer is going to be different than previous years, Whitaker said. Using guidance and best practices from the Governor’s Strike Force to Open Texas and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the City has implemented safety measures in City facilities to create and ensure a safe and secure environment for all participants. Visit for a complete list of safety precautions implemented.

Camp Wonder will have an average staff-to-participant ratio of 1:10. Carrollton Parks & Recreation department continuously strives to create an environment in which all participants with or without special needs feel safe, secure, and without obstacles to participate in any program. If your child needs additional accommodations, please call 972-466-4862 at least two weeks prior to start of camp.

The CDC also suggests that participants returning from a day camp should minimize in-person contact with any person 65 years of age or older, especially those with pre-existing health conditions, for a period of 14 days. This includes maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet of separation from those individuals, wearing a face covering or mask, and avoiding sharing utensils or other common objects with those individuals.

Registration for Camp Wonder is now open for residents and Monday, June 29 for non-residents. Visit under the Summer Camp section or call 972-466-9816 to get signed up for a summer of fun.

Kids Bring Life, Inc. will serve grab and go breakfast and lunch, Monday-Friday, 10-11 a.m. at Crosby Recreation Center (1610 E.
